The Heritage

Fifty-Two Years in the Fancy

A single page, like a ledger left open: the years, the standard, the record, and the dogs themselves. Read it the way it was lived — slowly, and on purpose.

The Years

Three Decades, One Kennel Name

2004

The Beginning...Bassets

The first litters were whelped in a converted tack room, with a borrowed book on structure and a great deal of nerve. What those early years lacked in ribbons they made up for in resolve: every setback became a lesson written into the program.

2020

Whippets Enter the Fold

After sixteen years of hounds, the second half of the program began: the first Whippets came home, chosen for the same soundness and temperament that had shaped the Bassets all along.

Today

The Program Now

Today the program remains what it has always been — small, deliberate, and entirely hands-on. One to two litters a year, raised in the house, placed the way they were bred: with intention. The next generation of the lines is already on the ground.

The Standard

How We Breed, and Why

Quality over quantity is not a slogan here; it is an arithmetic. Fifty-two years produces fewer litters than many programs produce in five, and every one of them was planned on paper long before it was planned in the whelping box.

A pairing is only ever approved for three reasons: it protects health, it improves structure and breed type, and it preserves the calm, generous temperament these breeds were named for. If a breeding answers only two of the three, it waits.

01

Health Before All

Every breeding animal is health-tested. All OSA required health certifications are done before a pairing is considered. No exceptions, no shortcuts, no quiet corner of the pedigree left unexamined.

02

Temperament Is Structure of the Heart

A dog that cannot live happily in a home is not a success in the ring. Temperament is selected for as strictly as structure, because our puppies go to families, not just to judges.

03

Raised at Home, Not in a Run

Puppies are whelped and raised in the house — handled daily, socialized with intention, and started on the small lessons that make a confident, biddable companion.

04

A Breeder for Life Guarantee

Every Absinthe puppy leaves with a breeder for life guarantee. We follow our dogs across the country, answer the midnight phone call, and welcome them home when circumstances change.

The Record

Titles Earned with Quiet Pride

Our dogs compete because it proves the breeding, not for the ribbon.

Ongoing

Championships

Absinthe-bred dogs have finished championships in both breeds — most of them owner-handled, which is how we prefer it.

Legacy

Specialty Competition

A consistent presence at Regional and National Specialties for both breeds, where the breeds are judged by those who know them best.

Five Decades

The Foundation

Breeding stock drawn from some of the most respected kennels in each breed's history — the foundation on which everything here was built.
